Experience
He has had over 20 years of international medical monitoring experience including clinical and post-marketing drug safety surveillance. Prior to joining ClinDatrix in March, 2012, Dr. Balyakin had spent seven years (2005-March 2012) at Allergan, Inc. as the Senior Medical Director within the Neurology and Dermatology Clinical Departments, working on such products as BOTOX®, LATISSE® and others. Before that he spent more than three years with Clinimetrics, Inc. as Vice President, Medical Monitoring and Safety. Dr. Balyakin has also worked for a number of other pharmaceutical companies and CROs over the course of his clinical research career. Dr. Balyakin’s areas of therapeutic expertise include schizophrenia, sepsis, depression, obesity, oncology, ophthalmology, rheumatology, pain, malignant glioma, diabetes, migraine, BOTOX® Cosmetic, madarosis, alopecia, sickle-cell anemia and epilepsy.
Industry Leadership & Influence
Originally from Russia, Dr. Balyakin practiced internal medicine for 10 years in his native country and worked as Associate Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine in the N.I. Pirogoff Medical School (Moscow). He earned his MD degree from the Vladivostok State Medical School in Vladivostok, Russia, and his PhD from N.I. Pirogoff Second State Medical School in Moscow. He completed his post-graduate training in Clinical Pharmacology and Drug Development at the Center for the Study of Drug Development at Tufts University, Boston, MA. Dr. Balyakin is a member of the American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators and a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians (London). He also is a certified MedDRA coder.
Dr. Balyakin has traveled worldwide representing his companies at investigators’ meetings, scientific conferences, business presentations and round-table discussions. Interviews with him were broadcast via international radio on the Voice of America and BBC. Since 2008, Dr. Balyakin has been selected to serve as a charter member of the National Language Service Corps (NLSC) of the U.S. Department of Defense, the organization established by the federal government to provide its services in times of national and international crises. In 2016, he was elected as a member of the World Association of Medical Law (WAML).
